Folks I knew
This collection in my portfolio is dedicated to the people I’ve met who moved me to lift the camera and ask—sometimes timidly—if I might take their portrait. I’m sure there were moments when I didn’t ask, or simply forgot the courtesy, swept up in the moment.
I truly believe everyone is photogenic—even my father, who often appeared uneasy or serious in photos, unless he was caught off guard laughing or flashing that million-dollar smile. We all have our angle, and despite popular belief, it’s not just about the photographer’s artistry—it’s about a shared understanding.
A portrait is, at its core, an agreement between the subject and the person behind the lens. Sometimes it works right away; sometimes it doesn’t—and then you try again.
The series I call Folks gathers some of the portraits I’ve most enjoyed making. Each one is a quiet moment of connection, and I’m grateful for them all.
