Willie DE - Lost and found treasures of Swannanoa

There are rolls of film that wait. This one had been sitting unprocessed long enough that I had forgotten what was on it. I sent it to the lab without expectations.
What came back was a camera test I had done with Willie De — composer and guitarist. The shoot took place at Swannanoa, the semi-abandoned Italian Renaissance Revival palace perched above Rockfish Gap on the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, about an hour from Charlottesville, Virginia. The marble, the decay, the light coming through what remains of the Tiffany glass—we were there nearly ten years ago.
Tonight I paired the footage with Faces in the Sky (Acoustic), the closing track from Willie’s 2012 album Egg Cracked, The Bird Went Wild. It was the right choice. The film found its music, or the music found its film. These things take time.
Some camera tests turn out to be the real thing.
