Paul Chaleff in Focus

Just arrived in Ancram, New York, where we are planning to spend at least a week documenting Paul Chaleff at work, following the craft and process of one of America’s most celebrated ceramicist-sculptors.
Back in June, Paul and I went to The Met and MoMA to visit some of his better-known works. The year before, we recorded some of his early memories while browsing through his family photo albums.
This time is different.
We are here to create a feature film that will mirror his artistry in spirit—to find a cinematic language capable of communicating something of Paul’s sensorial connection with nature through clay. Less about explaining the work, perhaps, and more about experiencing the world from which it emerges.
